The Main Process Steps Of Knitted Garment Cutting

Mar 16, 2026

Fabric Cutting Process: Initial Cutting → Defect Placement → Pattern Marking → Cutting → Bundling.

"Defect placement" is a critical step in enhancing product quality and conserving materials; during the initial cutting stage, every effort is made to position any defects present in the greige fabric within the seam allowances or along the stitching lines.

Knitted fabrics are cut according to the layout of the pattern pieces. Cutting typically employs a "nesting" method-arranging patterns to maximize fabric utilization-with common techniques including flat nesting, interlocking nesting, inset nesting, spliced nesting, and seam-split nesting.

The following precautions should be observed when cutting knitted fabrics:

Avoid using sections containing fold creases or printed selvage edges in prominent, visible areas of the garment.
Refrain from using awl punctures for marking during the cutting process, as this may compromise the aesthetic appearance of the finished garment.
